Welcome to a landscape whose history is linked to mining, coal production and woodcutting. Approximately seven thousand hectares of forest in which one can venture along countless tracks once trodden by lumberjacks, charcoal burners, shepherds and hunters. In the heart of the park, signs of man’s presence can be seen in relics of the alum quarries and the Napoleonic-era mining village commissioned by Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi, Napoleon’s sister.

Notes: The starting point is reached by taking the S.P. 19 road between Suvereto and Follonica. It is a circular route with a detour to reach the ruins of Pievaccia. It is also suitable for mountain bikes: there are no technical difficulties except for a few stretches of road or track with very rough terrain (wild boar) or with protruding rocks and roots.
